Holi One Colour Festival

IMG_20140816_145754_1Ridley: Latimer and I went to the Holi festival that was held yesterday in Kilmainham in Dublin!IMG_20140816_145745_1 We had a fantastic time chucking around our coloured powder, more often than not you’d have heard one of us shout, “Close your eyes!” before there’d be a face full of powder and you’d become a large puff ball of pink or blue.

We loved mixing the colours in the one bag, it was just so pretty! Like those old bottles filled with coloured sand in different layers, I remember I used to have one as a child!IMG_20140816_145314
IMG_20140816_145924IMG_20140816_144750 Of course, we also shared our powder with others, both by throwing it up in the air during the count down from the musicians on stage, and then one guy who had been watching us mess fight with the powder for ages, eventually plucked up the courage to ask if he could ‘have some too’, so as I happily said ‘of course’, Latimer was already lining up a handful of orange powder toss to onto his head, he even bent down so she could do it properly!IMG_20140816_145515

He wandered away well chuffed with himself. We later saw him arm in arm with a new girlfriend, though it was possibly one of those ‘just for the day relationships’ 🙂  but we both nodded in satisfaction that the oranging of his head had done wonders for our powdered friend! 😀 After all, the whole point of the festival was to promote ideas of togetherness and to have fun and bring colour to your every day life! IMG_20140816_152624

The festival itself, while not religious in any sense, was originally inspired by the Indian Holi festival, which is a Hindu festival of colours. It is a celebration of love, of triumph of good over bad. People hug and wish everyone a ‘Happy Holi’.pb-130322-india-holi-nj-03.photoblog900Everyone runs around tossing coloured powder and water at each other and into the air. Really it’s a free for all. I love the idea that there’s a specific festival in India that is as colourful as this and celebrates togetherness of friends and family. It makes me want to visit there one day and take part! As it was Latimer and I had a fantastic time at our own smaller version!

“If wishes come in rainbow colours then, I would send the brightest one to say Happy Holi!”

Ireland Comic Con 2014

IMG_20140412_174850Ridley: The first ever MCM Ireland Comic Con came to the RDS in Dublin during the weekend and I decided to check it out! There were kids dressed up to the nines in fantastic costumes, award winning comic book artists, famous television personalities and numerous stalls selling fantastic bits and bobs, all of which were anime, comic, and game related. IMG_20140412_170236 IMG_20140412_165937Basically it was a massive amount of fun packed into one very large room. I went for the atmosphere, the excitement, to see the costumes and of course for all the fun, shiny things I could buy!

There were comics for sale, necklaces, keyrings, t-shirts, Asian food like Pocky and drinks like Pacari Sweat (great stuff if you’re ever dehydrated!!), posters, figurines and loads of plushies.IMG_20140412_174747IMG_20140412_175120

I bought a notebook.IMG_20140413_125129 I’m just a sucker for stationary.I had convinced myself I was going in to buy some original art to hang on my bedroom wall and I walked out with this instead. Not that I regret it!IMG_20140412_174649 IMG_20140412_174641

They also held a Yugi-Oh tournament, wrestling demonstrations and you got a chance to play old school Street Fighter with the joysticks. Famous people wandered in to say hello, like comic book artists Simon Bisley, Glenn Fabry. Dr Who’s Ian Mc Neice attended the event, along with Warwick Davis of Harry Potter, Star Wars and Idiot Abroad Season 3 fame (and numerous other things but I’m just going to list my favourites, of course! 😛 ) Colin Ferguson, the sheriff in the show Eureka was also at it, and the English language voice actors, Maile Flanagan who voices Naruto and Bryce Papenbrook who voices Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan were signing there as well. An impressive line up!IMG_20140412_174634

So all in all, I’m pretty certain anyone that attended will really really be hoping that MCM do another event soon! Though I will warn you for next time, make sure you show up early, the queues into the event were massive, that or make certain you bring lots of provisions like snacks, a drink and a fold up chair, then you’re sorted! Or do what I did and wait until the crowds have died down a tinsy bit to do your shopping, I’ve gotten too old for those young ‘uns and their hustle and bustling!! 😀

Holiday Eats and Paddy’s Day

Latimer eating

Food, glorious FOOD!

Latimer: Where am I now? I’m not too sure really, but I bet I am eating my own weight in noodles, at least I hope so or I will be so very disappointed in myself! (Don’t disappoint me future self!)

IMG_20130820_123835

It’s also Paddy’s Day today (Lá Fhéile Pádraig) – the first one that I’ll be spending off of the auld sod! It’ll make me smile if I see some shamrocks and a bit of green in China today!

Hope you all have a good day 🙂

Holiday Food

20120525_163201

Latimer: After my study woes, I’m at last contemplating a holiday – and what’s one of the first things I dream about when I think of a holiday? Food, oh food; I am such a fan of food.

giphy

I’m not a good cook, I try sometimes and I make a mean Kedgeree if I do say so myself, but I don’t try often enough to be considered ‘a good cook’.

Kedgeree

So it’s always a big thing for me, going on holidays and looking forward to eating some nice food!

When Ridley and I went to Tokyo, I was always putting out my hand before she could eat; “WAIT! I need to take a picture!” She got so used to this she’d actually wait sometimes, staring at me, holding her fork poised over the food… “Hurry up.”

I think the food-photo-taking started in Tokyo, but that trip was a major food event. There was so much yummy food to be had… and yes I have a food-porn collection as a result!

I also have nice photos of afternoon tea in London…

I love taking my own photos of food (because it’s like you can then remember how tasty the food was) but I also like seeing other people’s food photos!

There is an amazing artist from deviantart (Jo aka cartoongirl7), that we now follow on Instagram and she takes some amazing food pictures – so amazing – check out her foody photos (she has seriously good taste mwhaha)! http://instagram.com/myrollingstar

Seriously, after the joy of actually going on holidays, food-joy is definitely next on my holiday joy list. I can’t wait to take lots of food photos on my next holiday 🙂

Study Woes

This makes me smile

I’m frreeeeeeee…… hehehehe

Latimer: Recently I found myself facing exams again. The sort of nauseating exams that force you into ‘study mode’ – a mode that no one, no one, wants to be in. It’s the mode that makes your heart recoil in your chest shrieking – ‘Dear god no! I don’t want to go back into the box!’

In short, I don’t like exams, but my predominant feeling towards them is always fear – abject fear.

When I study, and I remember Ridley saying the same thing, I get lots of ideas – I imagine a lot of things, totally unrelated to the exam. I think about cartoons, pictures I could draw, holidays I could go on, holiday’s I’ve been on… that bag of chips I had when I went to London when I was seven, and so on. Basically anything and everything except the dark tunnel ahead of me!

There comes a point in the study fever where I’m pulling out post-it notes and jotting down random plot holes in books we’ve written and sketching little cartoons of pictures I should draw; and then I’m surrounded my post-its and getting annoyed with myself for lack of focus.

As the years go on I’ve noticed how, I just ain’t as good at studying as I used to be. I looked back at my former selves (who were also shrieking at themselves for lack of focus) and I think, ‘wow, you were good once… once – now get back to work!’

Well thankfully the dark cloud of exams has finally lifted – leaving me looking forward to a holiday and putting all those random fever-induced sketches together into a cartoon summing up my experience…

studying merged

Yup, studying sucks!!

It’s Christmas (eve)!!

giphy

Wow, it’s really Christmas! It’s hard to believe!

We both hope everyone has a safe, happy holiday and New Year! Don’t forget to eat lots, have fun and relax 🙂

Oh and don’t forget the Doctor and Sherlock over the holidays!

MLR 🙂

Legend unleashed_jimmy

“……She kept her eyes pinned on Alastair’s back. He flitted through the trees untouched, a dark shadow she could barely see. She was grateful for the light the moon gave. She ducked, trying to mirror his movements only to trip into the bushes. It was almost like he was prowling through the forest, not running away. That’s what she was doing.

Every few minutes he snatched up her arm and veered to the side, obeying some invisible sign. He’d drop his hold on her as soon as he could and rush forward.

When they breached the edge of the forest, she gave a haggard gasp of relief. The snarls around them died away. Her harsh breathing filled her ears. She twisted around in a circle. A ring of trees hemmed them in. They hadn’t left the woods. She took a shuddering gulp of cold air. They’d been herded into a clearing….”
